Welcome to McTaggart Vets

Welcome to McTaggart Vets. We are a family run small animal veterinary practice based in Dalry, Ayrshire established since 1973. We are a small friendly team providing a professional & personal service to our clients.


Meet the Team:

Shona McTaggart: Vet

Shona qualified from Glasgow Veterinary School in 1995. She has worked at the practice since 1997.

 

She has a cat Kiwi and a Hungarian Viszla dog called Nugget. Out of work she enjoys running(sometimes with Nugget!), paragliding & snowboarding.

Jennifer Chalmers: Vet

Jennifer has worked at the practice since qualifying from Glasgow Veterinary School in 2000.

 

She spends her time off walking & socialising with friends. She often returns home to her parents beef & sheep farm in Aberdeenshire.

Fiona Hirst-Amos: Animal Nurse

Fiona has worked at the practice for 14 years.

 

She is married to Lee and has a 3 year old daughter called Leona. Fiona does a great job of juggling family life with full time work.


 Ruth Dunlop - Veterinary Nurse
Ruth has recently joined the practice to cover Jennifer’s maternity leave. She has a special interest in dog training & behaviour and will happily give advice on puppy training. She lives in Kilmarnock with her German Short Haired Pointer Saxon.
Jennifer Gilbert: Animal Nurse

Jennifer has worked for us for 12 years.

 

She lives with her husband Colin on his farm and spends her time off entertaining friends there. Jennifer is currently on Maternity leave following the birth of her daughter Gwen in November 2010.

Janette McTaggart: Office Manager

Janette is our most experienced member of the team having been part of the practice since the early days.

 

Janette's behind-the-scenes work helps ensure the smooth-running of the practice.

Karen Campbell: Assistant Office Manager

Karen has been with us for 13 years, initially dealing with the farm-side of the practice.

 

Since becoming small animal only, Karen undertakes reception work as well as administrative duties. Karen lives on a farm with her family.

Diane Shaw: Receptionist

Diane has worked at the practice for 6 years.

 

She mainly does evening reception work but she also gets involved in office work too. She lives in Dalry with her husband, Hugh, 3 children and a vast array of pets.

Janet Boyd: Cleaner

Janet has been with us for 6 years.

 

She keeps the surgery looking spick and span every night for us.



Robyn Finnigan - Animal Nursing Assistant
Robyn has been with us for a year initially training at Reid Kerr College in Paisley,  she is currently at Barony College in Dumfries but will be training with us on block release from college.

Out of Hours EMERGENCIES ONLY:
 




Our Out of Hours Emergency Cover is provided by specialist emergency provider Vets Now.  Vets Now is based in Kilmarnock. The hours covered by Vets Now are Monday – Friday 600pm – 830am, Saturday 12 noon until 830am Monday. All Public Holidays are also covered by Vets Now.


The clinic staff are available at all the times above for advice and will recommend whether they feel your pet needs to be seen. To use the emergency service please telephone our usual number on 01294 832503 where you will be directed to the Vets Now Emergency Clinic number. Alternatively you can telephone the Vets Now Clinic directly on 01563 258028

  There your pet will be seen by the dedicated emergency on-call vet & nurse and any necessary treatment given.
 
Please be aware that fees for out of hours services may be considerably higher than routine consultations. We highly recommend you have suitable pet insurance that covers these unforeseen circumstances. 

Please do not just turn up at the emergency clinic it is best to telephone first in order that your arrival time can be planned when a vet is available to see you.  Please always telephone 01294 832503 in the event of an emergency and you will hear a message giving you the emergency number to call.
